Maintain a drive
Removing Ventoy
Wiping Ventoy and turning a drive back into an ordinary, single-partition USB stick.
When you’re done using a drive for multiboot, BootForge can remove Ventoy and restore it to a plain USB drive you can use normally.
Format back to a plain drive
Open Tools → Remove Ventoy (or Format drive from the drive card’s ⋮ menu). This:
- erases the drive;
- removes Ventoy and its boot code;
- reformats it as a single plain USB drive (exFAT).
You’ll see the same kind of confirmation as preparing — the drive name, an erase-all-data warning, a checkbox to confirm, and Erase and format. During the format BootForge erases the boot code and verifies the new filesystem.
This erases everything on the drive, including all your images, and can’t be undone. Don’t unplug the drive or close the app while it runs.
When Remove Ventoy isn’t available
The option needs a drive it can act on. If it’s greyed out, BootForge tells you why:
- No drive — connect a USB drive through OTG first.
- Needs permission — grant access to the connected drive first.
- Still reading — wait a moment while BootForge classifies the drive, then try again.
- Busy — wait for the current operation to finish.
Just want to free space?
You don’t have to remove Ventoy to reclaim room — delete individual images from the drive instead. Removing Ventoy is for when you want the drive back as an everyday USB stick.
